Parking Lot

Reflections from our first week:


Everyone was excited for the new building and we couldn’t be happier with the new learning environment for our students.  It has been great to see all the kids and parents this week. Not everything with the new building has been perfect as we’ve had to iron out a few technical glitches …  like the bell! But, all in all, we are so grateful for everything.


Routines at Cooper have gone through some adjustments as well.  Today I want to revisit our Arrival/Dismissal procedures. You may have noticed that on Wednesday it was a bit crowded!  This was to be expected with parents dropping students off for the first full day and wanting to get pictures of their kids in front of the new Cooper sign.  As the week has progressed, the congestion has subsided and parents and students have refined their drop-off and pick-up procedures. Here are a couple of reminders to help this.


Arrival Procedures:

The school day is from 8:55 A.M. to 3:27 P.M.  Please have students arrive between 8:45 A.M. and 8:50 A.M..  The first bell is at 8:50 A.M. and students upstairs will be able to head to class independently beginning this week.  Kindergarten and First Grade teachers will be meeting students in the cafeteria for now but will head to class as soon as the bell rings.  Students needing breakfast can arrive at 8:10/8:15 A.M. till 8:40 A.M. To alleviate congestion, I encourage you to use the drop-off lane along the curb.  


Dismissal Procedures:

The dismissal bell rings at 3:27 P.M.  and teachers will be releasing students on a staggered release to relieve congestion in the stairwells and the cafeteria.  Again, I encourage parents to use the drop-off/pick-up lane designated by the loading only signs along the curb. Teachers in grades 3 - 5 will start sending students who are being picked up and who are walking out the side doors to further alleviate congestion.  Again, please review your families procedures with your students. All in all, I am pleased with the progress we’ve made..


The reason for all of these new routines is school safety and this building was designed with that as a priority.  Hallway doors are on a locked schedule as well as the main doors. The parking lot was designed for drop-offs/pick-ups along the curb and it looks like that is being utilized well.
