Welcome to Cooper ELementary

Hello Cooper Families,

I want to personally welcome you to the 2018-19 school year.  I am excited to see all of our students and families! Our school year begins Monday, September 10th.  The typical school day is 8:45am to 3:15pm. The first bell rings at 8:40 and students are expected to be in classrooms by 8:45.   Let’s make this a great year and help out our students by arriving to school on time. Remember that breakfast is served from 8:00 to 8:30am and is free for all students.

As we head back to school, I want to remind our families of a few things to help ease the transition.

  • Our first day, September 10th is our Cooper Kick Off day where your student has the opportunity to meet their teacher and drop off school supplies.  There will be a scavenger hunt and a bike giveaway as well! This should take no longer than 20-30 minutes and your child has a specific time in which they should arrive.  Please call Katie if you have not received your school letter. This is not a full day of school.

  • Parking for families will again be located in the Our Saviors Lutheran Church lot across 19th street.  Students may be dropped off on 19th street as well.  Please do not park cars on 19th street between Missouri and Wyoming Ave.  Also please refrain from using the main lot on Missouri Ave. This lot is closed to drop offs and may only be used between the hours of 9am and 3pm for drop offs or early release for appointments.

  • School safety is a top priority and I want to take the time now to update you on some changes for this school year.  Access to Cooper Elementary is restricted to 2 doors before and after school. The main entrance and the NE entrance across from the Church parking.  All other doors will be locked. Between 9am and 3pm please use the main entrance.  This door will be locked but it is monitored and you can be buzzed in.  The doorways are marked on the attached map along with parking and drop off locations.  The NE entrance will always have a staff member or myself monitoring the door before and after school.  We may be outside monitoring the playground before school as well. Additional changes that we expect to see soon include updated radios, security equipment, and training.  As always, if you see something, say something. We all play a part in school safety.

Construction of the new Cooper is underway again!  While we are disappointed that we will have to wait a year to move in, it is again exciting to see crews making progress.  As that progress is made, we will keep the website updated with pictures.

Looking forward to another great year!

Mr. Lieberz
